When you first start looking for homes in Sterling Virginia you may find some “steals” on the Web. Homes that are advertised as handyman’s specials. It is very important to look at the neighborhood when looking at these houses. If the homes surrounding the house in question are well maintained and it is a nice neighborhood, then you should calculate what it will take to improve the home to a comparable standard. If the cost of the fixer-upper and the cost of the home improvements is still under the median cost of other houses in the neighborhood and you have the skills or the cash to do the repairs, then buying a fixer-upper might be a good investment. You can then make the house into your home!
However, beware of homes that are extremely cheap in neighborhoods that are in a decline. The home’s price may be not only a reflection of the condition of the house, but of the declining neighborhood. Sterling Park is a portion of Sterling with the ZIP code of 20164. The land where Sterling Park was built was mainly made up of a few very large farms. When construction of Dulles International Airport began in 1959, land prices began to rise. In 1961 Marvin T. Broyhill Sr. saw this as a great investment opportunity and decided to buy the 1, 762 acres that now make up Sterling Park for the price of $2,115,783.86. Construction of the $14,800.00-$22,500.00 homes was completed by 1967. Sterling Park was one of the first planned communities built in Eastern Loudoun County and was a popular place for government workers to settle with their families outside the city. Sterling Park also contains a variety of businesses, churches, parks, a community center, semi-private golf club featuring two pools and tennis courts, and schools. It is the home of the Park View High School Patriots. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
